According to the Ghana Education Service (GES), first-year students are expected to report on December 4, 2023, as stated on the placement form.

This is in response to a request from Parliament that the Minister of Education consider moving the reopening date from Monday, December 4 to the first week of January.

"Due to the short notice with its attendant inconvenience to students, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff, the House proposes for the Hon. Minister of Education's consideration the first week of January 2024 as a more convenient and appropriate time for parents, students, and teachers to adequately prepare for academic work," according to a statement from the Parliamentary Service.

In contrast, the Ghana Education Service stated that "it is the expectation of management that schools begin registration and orientation of students from the 4th of December 2023" in a statement released on Saturday, December 2.

The GES further stated that under the academic calendar, there will be a Christmas break starting on December 21, 2023, and classes will resume on January 3 to continue until March 5, 2024.

"Management requests that all students who still need to complete their self-placement complete it as soon as possible.

"We are grateful to all involved parties for their cooperation and help in getting the CSSPS process thus far. To guarantee that the SHS academic calendar is implemented smoothly and returns to the pre-COVID academic schedule, we continue to beg for your patience.
