The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has provided the most definitive indication of his running mate prior to the 2024 election.

Talking with NDC allies in the Bono East Locale, Mr. Mahama implied that the person who might be picked as his running mate is a man.

He went on to say that this man was a minister in his government and diligently carried out his responsibilities.

He is well-known to all; He is very resourceful and humble; “He was a member of my government,” Mr. Mahama implied.

Advertisement The spokesperson for the NDC went on to say that. In accordance with its rules, the individual will be chosen the following year.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Mr. Mahama's running mate in the 2016 and 2020 general elections, has been dropped, according to the announcement.

Previous attempts to select Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as John Mahama's running mate in 2024 had been rejected by the NDC's Northern Caucus in Parliament.

During a recent meeting with the former president, the caucus urged him to change his mind about who he wanted to be his running mate.

They advised Mahama to rethink his decision after the caucus expressed doubts about her abilities and suitability for the position.

"Conditions have changed since you chosen Naana Jane for the 2020 political decision. One senior caucus member boldly stated, "Anyone who tells you that Bawumia will not have an impact in the Northern Region is misleading you."

“What are we doing to secure votes in NPP's strongholds, particularly in the Ashanti Region, now that Bawumia is likely to gain votes in our supposed strongholds? How to stop massive rigging in the Ashanti Region and Eastern Region is a major obstacle for us, he continued.

The party's desire for a running mate from the Ashanti Region is growing.

The former Local Government Minister Akwasi Oppong Fosu has emerged as a candidate with connections to the Ashanti Region, the Western and Western North Regions, and Akan communities.

Eric Opoku, who hails from the former Brong Ahafo Region and is being pushed by Lordina Mahama, is one of the other candidates for running mate; Former Eastern Region Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah; and Ashanti region native Samuel Sarpong.
