Professor Frimpong-Boateng pens: Our democracy's spiritual underpinnings

I would have preferred that our governance system had its foundation in a traditional system that is ingrained in our culture and widely understood by the people.

I am familiar with the Akan communities, which have a king or chief and a cabinet of various high-ranking "Nananom." Models are Krontihene, who is answerable for the everyday organization; Adontenhene is Guard Priest; The Minister of Finance, Sanaahene; Okyeame is the Minister of Information, while Sumankwaahene is the Minister of Health.

This is generally similar in numerous other ethnic gatherings in the country. However, spiritual foundations underlie each of these traditional structures.

Sadly, our practice has not yet evolved to a level that can deal with the mind boggling world difficulties, like experienced in schooling, international concerns, climate, farming, foundation, transportation, policing numerous others.

We have embraced the American Popularity based framework and it isn't so much for me to decide regardless of whether it is functioning admirably. However, I agree with it. It is critical to take note of that the groundworks of this vote based system are absolutely scriptural. The work of pilgrims who arrived in America in the 17th century gave rise to modern democracy as we know it today.

In late December 1620, the first group of pilgrims led by William Bradford set sail from Plymouth, England, for Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the United States. They accepted the Congregation of Britain was so common and degenerate that they needed to isolate from it and lay out their own congregation, one which was consistent with scriptural standards in another land where they could adore and reside as per the lessons of Sacred writing. The Mayflower Compact, which is regarded as America's "birth certificate," was drafted by the pilgrims' leaders in the captain's cabin prior to setting foot on the rocky coast of Cape Cod. Its motivation was to lay out a "Blessed Ward" in which just devotees to Jesus Christ were completely essential for the local area.

Scholars agree that the Mayflower Compact was the first of a long line of covenants, compacts, and constitutions that culminated in the 1787 United States Constitution.

Thus, there is broad impact of scriptural idea and standards in the American overall set of laws and the constitution of the US. In point of fact, the Bible is widely regarded as the model for the legal and political systems of the United States of America, at least as envisioned by their Founding Fathers.

The overwhelming majority of the official popular governments on the planet are a type of duplicate of the American framework.

The separation of powers, which the authors of the American constitution borrowed from Isaiah's Chapter 33 and verse 22 in the Bible, is the foundation of this system's good governance. This is the passage: For the Master is our appointed authority, the Ruler is our lawgiver, the Ruler is our Lord; He is the one who can save us. Here the Good book obviously depicts the partition of abilities. The Ruler is our appointed authority focuses to the Legal executive; the Master is our lawgiver alludes to Parliament and the Ruler is our Lord alludes to the Chief.

States are, subsequently, laid out on these scriptural standards. These cardinal standards are to get the existences of residents; to safeguard individual citizens' rights and create conditions that enable citizens to pursue happiness. The people should abolish any government or political tradition that becomes antithetical to these goals. Therefore, the right to govern the people, who in the first place decide who governs them, is forfeited by any political tradition that violates their rights.

The people God chooses to lead nations are described in the Bible. 18 of Exodus: 21 Moses gets the accompanying guidelines from God: " However, appoint capable men from among all people—men who fear God and are trustworthy and detest dishonest gain—as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifty, and tens. In Deuteronomy 1:13, Moses is instructed once more to: Pick a few wise, figuring out men from every one of your clans, and I will set them over you".

In Psalm 33, King David repeats the same message: 12: “ The nation whose God is Jehovah is blessed.

As a result, we must always strive to select leaders who revere God, are reliable, honest, and shrewd. These individuals comprehend the notions of the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Again, these leaders respect the Judiciary, Legislature, and Executive's separation of powers because they are aware of the risks associated with centralized power.

A leader who says they are Christian but doesn't believe in God is just a pretender who doesn't understand the eternal biblical principles that must be respected and followed to serve God and humanity well.

It is just when a Pioneer comprehends the profound groundwork of our majority rules government that such a pioneer will look to follow the numerous sections in the Good book that address pay off and debasement, for example, these: God denounces the acknowledgment of payoffs and pay-offs: Deuteronomy 16:19: " You will not distort the truth; You are not to be lenient, and you are not to accept bribes, as bribes distort the words of the righteous and blind the wise. Mass migration 23:8: " You will not accept kickbacks, for a pay off blinds the discerning and undermines the reason for the equitable". Maxims 17:23: " An underhanded man gets a pay off from the chest to debase the methods of equity".

In negotiations, God again condemns dishonesty and unfair behavior. Leviticus 19:35-36: " Try not to utilize deceptive guidelines while estimating length, weight, or amount. Use honest weights and scales, as well as an honest ephah and hin. I'm the Master your God, who rescued you once again from Egypt". The compensation that public servants receive must be satisfactory. Luke 3:14: “ Jesus was also questioned by some soldiers, who said: And what are we going to do? He also stated to them: Slander and extortion are not acceptable; and be satisfied with your earnings.

A people whose democracy is firmly based on biblical principles cannot be led by someone who is unaware of these biblical prohibitions against bribery and corruption.

What is more significant is picking a pioneer who accepts and comprehend that, his personality and otherworldliness direct the country he leads.

However, a leader who does not revere God cannot lead his people to prosperity.

A leader who oversees treachery, corruption, and the willful destruction of his country's environment for the benefit of a few cannot possess the necessary quality to ensure the advancement of the country's spiritual foundation.

The ongoing circumstance in Ghana plainly shows that, our chiefs don't just need the stuff to put stock in the cardinal scriptural standards our majority rules system depends on however have similarly left from the substance of God.

Our ongoing majority rules government has not just reproduced distress and difficulties among the huge people of Ghanaians however has step by step wrecked the mentality of the typical individual.

Today our chiefs have sewed sadness among our childhood as well as have similarly disintegrated any trust in them that they can make in Ghana.

This clearly demonstrates that our leaders have lost sight of the spiritual foundation of our democracy because they do not believe or practice any of the biblical principles that are supposed to serve as the foundation of their rule.

It appears to be working well for many other nations that have chosen a form of government that is based on Islamic laws. Still others depend on Hindu Culture for their administration framework. Shintoism has served the Japanese well and serves as their guide.

Since we have picked the majority rules system that depends on scriptural regulations and statutes, we will help well to fabricate persevering through inheritances on out profound establishment.
